Interview
of Fred Anton one of the Label Managers of Skull Fucked Productions an
underground Brutal death/Grind core label from France :"We are
a 100% underground dedicated label. It means that we will try to sign
only bands that youll have never heard about before".
Hail Fred!!
First of all could you make a bio of Skull Fucked Productions?
SKULL FUCKED PROD started in June 2002 as an association between Phil
(SKULL FUCKED FANZINE & FEST) & me. We decided to work together
to put up a small underground and brutal death / grind core label. I was
thinking to that for a long time and already produced a band in the past,
it was through INHUMATE own label GRIND YOUR SOUL and the band was C.V.I.
from Brazil. If you never heard abut that band, please try to check it
and listen to their incredible ultra violent album "Forensic necrovulvectomy"!!!
After that try I didn't go further in production because it was to heavy
and too expensive to make everything by myself
So, the meeting with
Phil was a perfect opportunity for me and this also because this guy had
exactly the same feeling as me on what music and underground is and means!
So, until now the label released 2 split CD and slowly goes on in its
indefectible underground support!
Why did you choose that name and what gave you the idea to create this
label?
About the name you should ask Phil as I joined him and he was already
using that name for his fanzine and festival. When I joined him I thought
that the name was already a bit known in our area so it should have been
stupid to change it. About the idea to put it up I think I already answered
to this before .
You're alone in S.F.P? If yes tell us why?
I should have read the questions first
What are the orientations of your label?
We are a 100% underground dedicated label. It means that we will try to
sign only bands that you'll have never heard bout before. Don't expect
here stuff like split CD with an unknown bands and a very well known band.
Because this kind of commercial attitude sucks I think. We just want to
help bands that we think have a good potential and that are strongly motivated!
We also just want to release split albums because we think it's the best
way to make a local promotion for each bands. About the bands we're interested
in we are focused on the death metal / brutal death / grind core scenes
only. But you can have a more precise idea of what we think about music
visiting our website at http://skullfuckedprod.free.fr and search for
the "philosophy" link.
Can we consider S.F.P as an underground label? And what's your definition
of the underground?
Oh, oh
I also answered to this before
.
What about the promotion and distribution of your releases? Up till
now, what is the number of your releases?
Until now we releases 2 split CD :
SFP 001 Split CD GERBE OF LIFE / REPUDIATE - sold out
SFP 002 Split CD 7TH NEMESIS / PUNISHMENT "Chronicle of a sickness"
- still for sale
Next release should be a compilation of French bands only. This comp will
be released at 2000 copies I think and will be free. The goal of it will
be the support of the bands only. Not a way for us to make money because
it's not our goal!!!!!
In the same moment of the releasing of the SFP 002 we helped the French
band BYATIS to release their first album "In the dark abysses of
memory". This was just a distro and promo deal, not a "real'
production or co-production deal.
About promotion, we send around 100 - 150 promos CD when the release is
unleashed. Most of them are sent to underground activists: fanzines, webzines,
distros, labels, etc
The bands do also get some promos to help them
to find some gigs.
About the distribution we work through trades. This part of the job is
managed by Phil, so I don't know exactly how many have been sent, but
the thing I'm sure is that the trades are done worldwide and we don't
only focus on the French scene.
Are the bands satisfied?
I think so . Just ask them, we have no problem with that:
REPUDIATE: repudiate@caramail.com
GERBE OF LIFE: they splitted
7TH NEMESIS: spirilium@wanadoo.fr
PUNISHMENT: info@punishment.at
BYATIS: byatis@fr.st
What
are the conditions for a band to be signed with you?
I also already answered to this, but here are the most important ones:
being motivated, playing good (in our idea) and brutal music and of course
being an underground band!!!!
Did you already think to sign (in the future) with Arab bands? And
can you tell us about your knowledge for Metal bands in Arabian world?
No, we never thought to it. Why? Just because no Arabian never sent us
any promo
But why not if one day we get something interesting from
there?
You come from France. What do you think about the current French metal
scene?
I think it's getting really cool nowadays! It has been a follower scene
for years, the bands were not creative and were just able to copy what
foreign bands were doing, but now the new wave of French brutal metal
& grind core is full of interesting bands I think. If you have the
opportunity to listen to the following bands then do it : DEVILIUM, DROWNING,
WRECKER, 7TH NEMESIS, GENITAL GRINDER, SOLEKHAN, KRONOS, ANTAGONY, GLAUCOMA,
REPUDIATE, INHUMATE, ORGAN HARVEST, PULMONARY FIBROSIS, ATROCIOUS DEVORED,
CARNAL LUST, BYATIS, BLOCKHEADS, ERADIKATE, IMPERIAL SODOMY, FLATULATION,
VORACIOUS GANGRENE, DEPRAVED, RECUEIL MORBIDE, LOATHING, etc
We know that you are the bass player of one of the oldest grind band
from France called INHUMATE, can u tell us more?
More about what? Yes, I'm playing in INHUMATE since the beginning of the
band in the end of 1990. And now I'm also in SFP. This just because I
do fucking like this music and this scene!!! But both activities are totally
different. I'm the only guy in INHUMATE that works for the label and the
label will never release an INHUMATE album as INHUMATE is and will stay
forever a self produced band!!!
Your age? Your hobbies? The music you listen to?
I'm 37 years old. My life is in 3 parts only: my family (wife & children),
music (INHUMATE and the label) and my job (I'm teacher). My only hobby
is the underground scene. I don't go to cinema, pubs, etc
The time
my family life and job left me free I spend it in front of my computer
answering interviews or mails and promoting the stuffs I support. If I'm
not doing that then I visiting some
concerts or on rehearsal!!! Music is a very big part of my life and this
for more than 25 years now!
What do you think of the concept of our website?
Your website has a very cool design and I think it's interesting as t
is trying to offer somlething different than the usual interviews / reviews
I always see on webzines. Gon on with that concept and never stop supporting
the underground !
What are the next plans for the label?
Answer at question # 6 ;-)
Thanks for the interview! The last word is for you!
Thanx to you for giving me the opportunity to promote my work on your
site. And as ever I say to all readers that they can write me if they
have any question, all e-mails or letter will have an answer, no fucking
rock star IRC needed here!!!
