Severed Remains
started in the summer of 2001 with Ben and Anthony jamming together.
It originally was only intended to be an "Obituary" type of
death metal band, but as time went on so did that direction for the band.
Adding influences from old schoolers such as Autopsy, Cryptopsy, Obituary,
and Suffocation and mixing it with the "brutal death" sound
of today, with a hint of melody, and a large dose of slammy breakdowns,
that became the new direction for Severed Remains.
By the end of summer Severed Remains had a full lineup that consisted
of Ben Rubin on Guitar, Joe Reed on Vocals, Kevin Trask on Bass, Anthony
Biello on Drums and Tom Terbanc on Rhythm Guitar. This lineup was stable
for a few months before Tom departed because of personal reasons and Kevin
because of commitment to his other "Punk" band. Despite these
losses, Severed Remains still moved on, and had a few replacement bass
players for a while. Nothing seemed to work out until the addition of
Pavel Puzeri on Bass in the winter of 2002.
They then did some more shows and promoting with the new line-up and decided
to look for a second guitar player. After many months of search Andrew
Marunoski tried out and fit the band with his new style of playing.
After more rehearsing a decision was made to step it up a notch and record
a professional EP later that summer. It was called A Display of
Those Defiled and it is about to be released by Station F Records/AngelGrave
Productions out of California. The style on this EP was very advanced
from the first demo but also paved the way for the newer sounds of Severed
Remains. The debut EP adorned joky song titles, very experimental song
writing, and some older demos that where re-mastered.
While they are very proud of this EP they decided to take a more serious
approach from then on and take the music to the next level.
Now with Joe Reed gone on vocals and original guitarist Ben Rubin both
leaving to join the Cleveland grind crew known as Gemisuadi, Severed Remains
finally started rehearsing with there new vocalist, Al Soros. His style
is much lower, faster and versatile than Joe and it is apparent on the
newer 3-song demo. Once the line up was back on its feet after the
loss, they started writing for the future full length. Taking on some
of the older elements found on the EP mostly on track 3, Prelude
for Dementia, Severed Remains decided that the style they truly
like to play and be heard through is the ultra fast blasting style heard
from bands like Suffocation, Severe Torture, Disavowed, Pyaemia, Visceral
Bleeding and Spawn of Possession.
So with this advancement of style and technicality the band also decided
that they would like the future release to be something more unique lyrically
and conceptually and it only felt natural to do a concept on Psychology.
With every new song to be written for this up-coming release the lyrics
will follow in a psychological sense, meaning that instead of just up
front lyrics about killing and gore etc, it will be more about the thought
process and in depth story lines that go into it.
Rigth now, they have signed a 2 album deal with Comatose Music and the
EP will FINALLY see the light of day in late October 2003!!!
