Originality
through diversity" is the ambition of the music of ONE STEP BEYOND.
Combining their eclectric influences from such styles as Grind, Rock,
Dub Reggae, Funk, Jazz, Thrash, Ska, Punk, Industrial and Hip Hop, they
have forged a unique sound and vision amongst the hordes of imitators
currently congesting the music world.
Their vision was launched in Adelaide, Australia when in late 1997 Bassist/Vocalist/Programmer
"Mad Matt", guitar wielding maniac Jeremy P Lammas and an upcoming
young drum machine known as 'The Boss" joined forces on a quest for
something new. Something immediately accessible and catchy, yet challenging
the listener with each new song.. Something displaying a technical virtuosity,
but never self serving. Something indicative of the future rather than
reflective of the past: music for the new millenium.
In mid 1999 the step beyond was aided and abetted by the addition of the
raging vocal styles of Justin Wood. His "20.000 leagues deep"
growls and tortured, piercing screems lent an extreme Metal overtone to
their sound, creating an intense parallel to some of their more serine
musical moments, and exaggerating the brutality of their heavier explorations.
Lyrically ONE STEP BEYOND tackles such diverse topics as positivity, horror
films, introspection, religion, pornography, drug use, society, escapism,
relationships and greed. Ultimately they aim to convey a positive message,
often from a negative situation, and to entertain by any and every means
necessary.
After much rehearsal and refinement, ONE STEP BEYOND recorded and released
their '99' demo. Mixed and produced by the band themselves, this 5 song
effort received much praise from fans, peers and press alike.
ONE STEP BEYOND have since performed many shows throughout their home
state along side Rock, Death, Punk, Thrash, Industrial,Electronica, Latin,
Pop, Drum & Bass and Hardcore acts, placing much pride in their ability
to transcend any one style or scene.
2002 has seen the release of "life Imitates Art", the debut
ONE STEP BEYOND album. Produced and released by the band themselves, this
eclectic 13 song effort was efficiently recorded at the revered "Sound
House Studios" in South Australia. Highly satisfied with the results
the band have since been busily seeking out a world wide distribution
deal for the album from willing labels, with nothing yet finalized. With
an Australian tour planned for 2003 and a follow up album already composed,
their future is looking bright.
