METHEDRAS
were formed in 1996 by Massi (rhythm guitar) and Andrea (bass), after
some changes, the line-up was set stable and drummer and lead guitarist
began to properly work toghether with the rest of the band, while the
bass player took care of vocals, lyrics and artwork. In this period were
organized several live shows to test the audience appreciation, during
which were performed covers of Slayer, Testament, Megadeth and Metallica,
names that heavily influenced the band, and the first versions of proprietary
songs. Became clear and defined the route Methedras intended to follow:
revitalize the true granitic and direct Thrash Metal of the early '80s.
Afterwards the bass player decision to abandon vocals, several singers
were unsuccessful tested. But with the incoming of Claudio (vocals), in
1997, Methedras finally started to consolidate their ideas.
In 1999 was released a demo mini CD, Cost of Life, self-produced, containing
the tracks The Warning, Darkness, The Theatre Of Pain, No Survivor, Faceless.
This release resulted in a premature and flat work, lacking that right
energy a thrash metal disc would have to express; it's here described
because it was anyway released and upheld.
In 2000, the line-up was strongly modified with the arrival of Carlo (drums)
and Eros (rhythm & lead guitar); starts here the most important and
productive period of the band: consolidated the new line-up, all the previous
songs were rearranged and some new ones were written.
Result of such changes was the release of two promo CD's: the first, Promo
2001, mixed and recorded in the July of 2001, containing four tracks (included
two covers from Slayer and Metallica); the second, Promo 2002, mixed and
recorded in the June of 2002, containing five tracks.
Both works show a heavy roughness of the sound, characteristic of essential
Thrash, a recording surely undefined and dirty, but also the beginning
of a songwriting growth path which will take the band to insert unusual
patterns and sounds proper of other genres, emphasizing in this way the
incisiveness and impact, peculiar characteristics expressed during the
live performances.
At the moment, the band has participated in different international compilations
(Voices Of Death Part 6.66, The Harder The Better Vol. 5, Atlantida Compilation
Vol. 4), opened for important international and national bands (Entombed,
Tankard, Novembre), won the Battle of the Metal Bands Contest 2004 sponsored
by Metallus.it and Metal Hammer, and produced the first full length album,
Recursive.
The new work has been released at the end of May 2004 and includes the
following tracks: Intro, L.R.S., Drowning By Torment, Wreck 'N' Roll,
My Iniquity Whirl, Time To Die, The Denied God, Under, Darkness. It contains
the experience the band has reached in nearly ten years of activity, directing
into the songs featured the whole energy and rage which distinguished
the last years, fed by a substantial dose of old style thrash, but rendered
in a more cynical and grimmer way.
For the next future, the main target will be focused on the new album
promotion through a frequent live activity and submitting of promo-packs
to magazines, webzines, portals and labels.
Now the obscure creature is born, and it must only prosecute its natural
metamorphosis from an embryonal state to a songwriting maturity level
able to exalt impact and speed, innate and primal points of strength,
without omitting technique and arrangement finesse, features more appreciable
in the newest compositions, thanking with devotion an ever more number
of supporters. The desire to face the more hidden fear and anguish of
the human condition, will guide Methedras through their dogged way, and
as more difficult it could seem, as more sheer will be the certainty to
go always along, without turning back or changing the way...
