LELAHEL FEST 2004 LIVE REPORT -DAY ONE-

Let's begin with the beginning, before the theatre's opening. It's 4 pm, 1 hour before the planned time, when we arrived, and the street's already croweded with faces that we know well, the metalheads (feels good to say it). A good astmosphere from the start, all gathered, joking around.

Ahh what do I see? The opening is announced and the first shouts can already be heard, a big rush there, and a huge queue. Pockets, tickets, coffee for some, and everybody got in the theatre. We're still waiting with our buddies, camera flashes can be seen, along with the first video recordings (everything's there to make a great live).

People show up on stage, musicians…who are they ? of course, it's Atakor. It wasn't until then that people knew they'll be the openers. We're eager to hearing the well-know heavy metal sound from the " gods of Algeria ".Salem, at the mic, hails us and announces that they'e going to play 5 original tracks. let's go!

Musically speaking, I loved the show. The guitar players are pretty good for their genre, the sound's heavy, Salem's vocals are brilliant, sometimes high-pitched, sometimes low, as well as keyboard playing that we couldn't hear well at the beginning, until he asked the technicians to turn up the volume of his instrument, and it was a lot better.

Zinou's drumming was remarkable, and I think he had an amusing attitude, since he was comfortably playing, and sometimes getting in a kind of transe. Meanwhile, the bassist was hanging back, playing alone in a corner, and he wasn't showing up much, but that fact didn't keep him from delivering a great performance.

As far as I'm concerned, I thought the songs were fine, and I had a good time listening to them, in that great atmosphere.

A little break before the second round. Everybody's out to smoke, have a free coffee (thank you Nescafé), chat a little, discuss the previous performance. everyone agreed ont the fact that it was pretty well done.

Back to the theatre for the second part of the gig. It's already Dark Wish's turn. Very "metal" look to those musicians. They introduce themselves one by one; the long-haired guy, the rasta guy, Lounes, and uncle-bassist. They took their positions, and let the music flow. First an Obituary cover, a track from the Back From The Dead album (download), then follows two thrash/heavy/death metal tracks of their own, that I thought were pretty good.

The fourth track was a cover from the band Pestilence 'Twisted Truth', that was well carried out(after re-listening to the original song). The band ends its part with 3 songs that were ok, but I couldn't really get into the last one because there were too many breaks which broke the rythm of the song, since it had an agressive and fast tendency. But this doesn't keep from saying that Dark Wish is a good band that I liked a lot.

That's it. The first day's already over, more than two hours of pure ass-kicking, came to an end, and it was a great live performance that we enjoyed a lot, hoping that it will be even better for the second day, tomorrow Thursday.

The comments we heard when going out made us think that everybody enjoyed the gig as it should.

Gig's Rank :9/10
