BIOGRAPHY

The higher reaches of heaven, a realm of fire and light, this is Empyrean.
Empyrean was formed under the name of Impure in September 2003. The lineup at that point consisted of Luca on Vox/Guitars, Amrit on Guitars, Andre on Bass and Kabir on drums. The band was also primarily a Nu metal outfit drawing influence from bands like Flaw and Mudvayne. About a month after forming they played their first gig opening for some of the best bands in the country at the Core Launch Gig. This show served as a foundation to what Empyrean is today.
After Core, the first line up change took place as Kabir was removed and replaced with Jay Fillion, who was also the drummer of another local band. With this new line up the band, still operating under the name Impure played two more shows. The first one was a well known local event known as Rage III held in February of 2004, and this was where the band showed their first signs of a change in direction musically, as they ended their set with their single "Resist" played live for the very first time. The song was widely received and enjoyed by local metal audiences at the show and it was at this point when people really started to take notice of the band.
The next show, named Revolution, was a relatively large concert for local standards and brought 500+ people and a massive sound system, and was to be the make-or-break gig for the band. And they didn't disappoint. Arguably their best performance till date, the band rocked the night playing three originals and three covers and sending people home with a newfound respect for their abilities.
It was around this time that the third track on the EP, Ancient Skies, was written, showing a more mature side of the band as influences of band members started to vary dropping the Nu metal act and moving on to the likes of Children of Bodom, Kalmah, Dream Theater, and Symphony X. The summer of 2004 brought about Death Whispers to the bands portfolio and confirmed the bands new musical direction.
Following this episode, the next line up change took place. Jay left the band for personal reasons and again, the band was left without a drummer. Around this time it was also decided that the band would need a keyboardist to fill in Live in order to perform some of the original material previously composed, and Natasha Mukhi, a friend of the band, was brought in to cover keyboard duties. Drummer Anmol Pinto was appointed to fill in drum duties, and they all started jamming for the next major concert, a show which was to be the sequel to the last major gig, and was named Evolution. The turnout was again sizeable and the band impressed audiences with the new style they had created. After the show, it was decided that Natasha would be made a permanent member.
Subsequently, the band hit the studio to record their first single Resist at their home studio. This was followed by the remaining tracks, which were all completed by early march 2005. They then faced a dilemma, as they were unaware of the presence of another signed band under the name Impure, with copyrighted material in their name. Therefore, due to legal reasons, they were forced to find a new name. The name Empyrean was first suggested by a friend of the band, and it was accepted, as it was believed that it was a better representation of them and their music. The debut EP was released on March 14th 2005.
