Charnel Valley is the product of the longstanding, friendship between Marty Rytkonen (Worm), co-founder/ chief writer of the cherished metal zine Worm Gear and S. Craig Zahler (Czar), the opinionated asshole from Metal Maniacs. Created during the lengthening shadows of 2004 and recorded in 4 days, "The Dark Archives" contains 5 tracks of epic, raw and imaginative black metal.
Worm and Czar both feel that Charnel Valley is the artistic culmination of all of their years of study and worship. Worm's partiality to the old Norwegian sound/ vibe and Czar's interest in recent black metal advancements (particularly minimalism) are juxtaposed on "The Dark Archives".
"We do not feel the need to hide behind speed, nor do we feel primitive music necessitates polished production no perfect performance. Our music has heart and atmosphere…and fuck-ups…and it always will. We want each song to be a distinct journey to a hidden world, one different from the one we live in, which unfortunately revolves around reproduction and money." -Czar
