A relatively great number of metalheads gathered in that June 27 evening to attend the first live performance of the grindcore band Carnavage, at the Ibn Zeydoun Theatre. Not only was it their first gig, but it also was the first grindcore show ever in Algeria, and my opinion is : it was worth it.
Right before the band got on stage, many metalheads were already assembled in front of it to welcome (and discover) this new band. The four musicians made their appearance with a somewhat original look: apart from the guitar player, they all wore those surgical masks, while Grindazer (the bassist) had a white smock stained with (fake) blood. Some were astonished, some were amused, but theses are only details, and the main thing is yet to come: music!
After a few adjustments, the band took its mark and started the hostilities with the track "Guess Who Pays", and then everything just went off. The crowd went crazy headbanging and mooching, everybody's screaming and the band is just giving its best, with a decent sound quality that put the guitar forward, supported by the terrific vocals of Skinned Alive, and the never ending blasts of the drummer, Ghostok.
The track only lasts for one minute, and there we have a succession of tracks that are always shorter and more brutal. Titles like "Carnival of Carnage", " 30 For the Cheeks ", and Impetigo cover (Boneyard), and " Corporal Welcome ", all were passing in the exact same slaughtering scenario: hysterical headbanging and moshing (of which we already were getting the effects, even though it was only the beginning). The set was just crazy. Short, but terrifically efficient. Frantic guitar rhythms and skull-hammering blasts. The vocalist, was often interacting with the audience, and some people got on stage to improvise a mooching session of which I am one of the fortunate victims (I almost crashed my head on the ground haha!), but despite the apparent violence, the mood was good.
The band had a break between 2 tracks, to breathe a little, and let the crowd breathe too. The latter was in a visibly in a good shape and very receptive to Carnavage's performance.
Here it goes again for the last 4 tracks; faster, stronger and more brutal than ever, which lead to crazy some mooching. Indeed, the crowd just couldn't be contained, and was taken away by the fury of the "straight-in-your-face" grindcore!

"Consuming Our Feces", "Deep From Guts", "The Wet Juicy And The Polecat" and a killer cover of Mortician's " Slaughterhouse " finished off the audience. An important number of metalheads even claimed on stage, and the bassist was literally crushed by the flow. He couldn't even play his bass anymore; nonetheless, it was so awesome that no one paid attention to that detail.
It's already the end, but what an end! The band thanked the audience for coming in a great number to attend their first performance, to which the crowd replied with screams and applause that certainly pleased the band members, judging from the smiles on their faces. We felt that the band gave its best to satisfy the audience and the present metalheads knew how to show their gratitude. This was truly the best gig I've been to in ages. It was killer.
Cheers to Carnavage. We really hope to see you more often in the future!

Highlights: The whole gig was perfect, from the band's performance to the general atmosphere. We didn't have time to get bored, and I can even state that we didn't mind being punched, because of the slaughter that we were attending!

Thank you to Utila, Skinned Alive, Grindazer and Ghostok. Thanks to Carnavage and see you next time!
STAY FUCKING BRUTAL!
