The band was formed back in the year 2000 with the name "Sphinx" by Phex (bass), Saeed Abu-Jaber (guitar), Tareq Fayyad (vocals), Omar Nooreddin (guitar) and Omar Ebdah (drums). The start was only like other local bands playing cover songs. In 2002 Omar Ebdah left the band due to a simple misunderstanding. After that the band had changed its name to "Morgoth" and real work started - composing some original stuff. In a period of about 9 months, the band had 5 complete songs ready to be recorded at anytime. Through out the composing period, Basil Bursheh (Phex's cousin) joined the band on keyboards, so the songs got even more killers. However, the band had to change its name again because there was another band called "Morgoth" from Germany, so the name changed to "Augury" (which is the ability to predict good or evil). "Temptation Of Oath" (Demo 2004) is the first release by Augury. Its a really powerful a interesting demo, holding the main style as melodic black metal, other styles has its role in this record like death metal and heavy metal and of course lets not forget the classical feel that the songs carry while running. Being one of the fewest bands in Jordan playing black metal (if not the only), future plans are of course a full length album in this direction, but since the guitarists live in England at the mean time, its going to take some time.
